The name of this blog was inspired by an excerpt I read from a speech given by Rev. Dr. Patrick T. O’Neill of First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Framingham, MA. The speech pointed out that a traditional greeting among warriors of the Masai tribe in Africa, “Kasserian ingera,” translates to “and how are the children?” Rev. O’Neill wonders what things would be like in America if we greeted each other with “And how are the children?” What might change if we had to ask and answer this question every day, if governors and the president were asked this question at each public appearance and press conference?
I think it is a critical question. The answer is the key to our future as a society.
